Sonnenberg Tunnel

The Sonnenberg Tunnel is a double tube highway tunnel at the entrance of Luzern under the hill called Sonnenberg. This tunnel had the ability to turn into a civilian atomic shelter, planned for 20'000 civilians.

Four 360 Tons doors closed the tubes and a huge protected chimney brings fresh ait through filters and fans.

The shelter worked under the rules of 3x8, a separated control center surveilling the rotations for walking people, resting people and sleeping people to maximize the space utilisation.

An extensive untested program, that reveals the fantasies and utopias on atomic civilian shelters.

Part of an unfinished research called SWISS UNDERGROUND.
